Becoming Bill...
In my younger years, I was called Billy except when my mom was mad. She would call me William Lee, rather loudly too. It was my Uncle Jim that started calling me Bill shortly before I graduated from high school. He said that Billy was a boy's name and Bill was more appropriate for a young man. When I started college, I started going by Bill. Pretty soon that was what everyone was calling me, everyone except for a few of my relatives who still call me Billy to this day.
Things I do when I am not at WDW...
Besides working, that is... having two jobs tends to take up most of my time...
I love soccer (or football as the rest of the world knows it). I watch it whenever I can. I am a big fan of Major League Soccer and both the US Men's and Women's National Teams. My favorite foreign league is the English Premier League. I also like to watch some of the other European leagues as well, Germany's Bundesliga, Spain's La Liga, Holland's Eredivisie, France's Ligue 1. I have even been known to watch games on Univision, even though my command of the Spanish language is minimal at best. Fox Sports World, "The Home of World Class Soccer," is my favorite cable channel of all time.
Growing up in Tallahassee and having my Nana work for the school, I was exposed to the joys of being a Florida State University Seminoles fan at an early age. Games involving the Seminoles are really the only sports I keep up with anymore excepting soccer.
I have been an avid gamer since my late teens. Through the years, I have played many different role playing games. I started out with D&D and Gamma World in the late seventies. Shortly there after, I discovered Traveller and it became my favorite game well into the eighties. Then came Champions and the Hero System, pretty much everything I ran or played during the late eighties and throughout the nineties used the Champions or Hero System rules. In 1998, I discovered the Fuzion system and it has been my gaming system of choice ever since.
I also like to write fiction and listen to music.
My writing is very dependent upon my mood. I have written flowery poetry, hard pounding science fiction, some very dark relationship pieces, crazy song lyrics... It is pretty much a hodge-podge of what I am feeling at the time. Like most writers, I am working on a novel, maybe that should be working at a novel. Not much progress to report, just a story running around in my head that has had a very hard time making it to paper.
When it comes to music, you could probably find my picture by the definition of "weird taste," if there was such a listing in the dictionary. A quick check of one of my CD storage racks finds: Mannheim Steamroller; Ray Lynch; Peter Buffet; David Arkenstone; Enya; Clannad; Jan Hammer; Various movie/TV soundtracks and scores; Pink Floyd; Santana; Tangerine Dream; Tori Amos; Sarah McLachlan; New Order; Depeche Mode; The Sisters of Mercy; Rush; The Human League; Seal; Tears for Fears; The Cars; Emerson, Lake and Palmer; Inxs; Billy Joel; Robert Plant; U2; Genesis; Peter Gabriel; The Cranberries; R.E.M.; Midnight Oil; The Rippingtons; Spyrogyra; Chieli Minucci; Special FX; Third Force; Cusco... and that is just one of my CD storage racks.
In the CD player right now is Return 2 Zero, also known as Four for a Dollar. The pre-show act for the Beauty and the Beast stage show at Disney Studios. Sitting on top of the CD player, on deck, so to speak are Tori Amos' "Little Earthquakes;" Spyrogyra's "Heat of the Night;" The Rippingtons' "Let it Ripp;" Weather Report's "Heavy Weather;" Mars Lasar's "Olympus;" and a collection of original works by Jim Glines, one of my friends, called "Ship of Light."
